本片根据华盛顿·欧文创作的《断头谷传奇》改编。《沉睡谷》是一个经典的历史故事，近代沉睡谷故事的源头来自「美国文学之父」华盛顿·欧文。欧文1799年以历史传说为基础创作出经典作品《沉睡谷传奇》（The Legend of Sleepy Hollow），中国人对沉睡谷故事的印象则主要来自1999年蒂姆·波顿的电影《断头谷》。当你在痛苦中死去，却又在250年之后的未来时代突然醒来，那会是怎样一种情况？
