老龙岗村村委会主任杨立本家的山货庄要开业了，村民们纷纷来贺。杨立本的小舅子关小手演出了“单出头”擦皮鞋，演者无心看者有意，正要外出打工的春虎和樱桃受到启发，决定到镇上做擦皮鞋的生意。春虎的父亲柳茂财是一个嗜酒如命的庄稼汉，经常因为喝酒而不思进取与妻子发生矛盾，在得知儿子在镇上的工作竟然是擦鞋后，心里受到了震动，辅佐儿子春虎、樱桃办起了鞋店，并且自己也依靠当掌鞋匠完成了“原始积累”，在镇里办起了造酒坊。与此同时，杨立本的大女儿八月和男友春龙作为从村子里飞出去的金凤凰，在大学毕业后放弃了在省城找工作的机会，回村创业了。这一举动受到了杨柳两家长辈的强烈反对，父辈们不仅不支持他们在农村创业，还给他们设置了种种困难。八月和春龙默默克服了开发大洼地、跑贷款等困难，将新型养牛场经营地有声有色，也使长辈的传统的观念逐渐得以变化，最后达成了新老两代农村人之间观念和情感上的融合。
